Interventional Cardiology

Step into the future of cardiac care without advanced interventional cardiology services. Dr Moedi’s Cardiology practice gives you the experience of cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedures that prioritise your well-being, ensuring swift recoveries and profound, lasting health benefits.

What is interventional cardiology?

Interventional cardiology is a specialised branch of Cardiology focusing on minimally invasive, catheter-based techniques to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases. Unlike surgical procedures that often require large incisions and extended recovery periods, interventional cardiology procedures are performed using tiny incisions and specialised instruments, ensuring a quicker recovery.

Some of the benefits of interventional cardiology include:

  • It utilises minimally invasive techniques
  • Your recovery time is reduced, meaning a shorter hospital stay and fast return to daily activities
  • It’s more cost-effective
What conditions does interventional cardiology treat?

Interventional cardiology helps us address a range of cardiovascular conditions including, but not limited to:

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD)
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Aortic aneurysms
  • Arrhythmias
What are the different types of interventional cardiology procedures?
  • Angioplasty: This involves using a balloon-tipped catheter to open a clogged coronary artery, restoring blood flow to the heart muscle. A small mesh tube known as a stent is placed inside to keep the artery open.
  • Cardiac Ablation: Used primarily to treat arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats, cardiac ablation works by delivering energy through the catheter to specific parts of the heart. This removes problematic electrical pathways causing the irregularity.
  • Cardiac Catheterisation: This is a diagnostic procedure that assesses the functioning of the heart, measures the pressure inside the heart's chambers, and visualises coronary arteries.
  • Valvuloplasty: We use valvuloplasty to widen a heart valve that has become narrowed. Dr Moedi inserts a balloon-tipped catheter, which is then inflated to enlarge the valve opening.
  • Closure of Heart Defects: Interventional techniques can close holes in the heart, such as atrial or ventricular septal defects.
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed aortic valve without open-heart surgery.
